Recently, I got to photograph Off the Porch, a Madison-based bluegrass band, at an unusual venue: Grace Episcopal Church. It was a foggy and gloomy day in Madison, but the church had a glowing atmosphere. The band itself was fun, with six member and three vocalists. They played a mixture of original music, old classics and Christmas songs for the appreciative crowd.
In the last few months, I've learned a lot about photographing live bands. The main thing is that your camera is only a small part of what makes a great picture. At some point I'll put together a list of important tips for event photography. For now, I still have a lot to learn.
